Proclamation honoring David Woten for being named Pennsylvania's 2008 Teacher of the Year.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have individuals, such as Mr. David Woten, who enhance our quality of life and enrich our community; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Woten, a music teacher at Carson Middle School, was named Pennsylvania's 2008 Teacher of the Year; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Woten was selected from a field of 12 finalists and will represent Pennsylvania in the national Teacher of the Year competition in Washington, D.C.; and

 

WHEREAS, Principal Brian Miller nominated Mr. Woten last year and submitted essays, videos of Mr. Woten teaching, as well as letters from students and parents; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Woten has spent his entire 16-year teaching career at Carson Middle School, where the number of students enrolled in elective music classes has grown from 35 to more than 250 during his tenure;

                     

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and congratulates Mr. David Woten for being named the 2008 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year.  We commend your dedication and commitment to educating our youth, which serves as an inspiration to the residents of Allegheny County and to all.
