Proclamation recognizing the 150th anniversary of Peace Lutheran Church.

 

Body

WHEREAS, for the past 150 years, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church has been serving the Lutheran population of Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the church, located in the Greenock area of Elizabeth Township, was originally organized in 1858 as a part of the German Evangelical Lutheran congregation; and

WHEREAS, first led by the Reverend Michael Schweigert, the German Evangelical Lutheran congregation was initially attended by 56 members, many of whose descendants still attend to this day; and

WHEREAS, the Peace Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church of today was organized when the two branches of the German Evangelical Lutheran congregation, St. Paul's Church and Trinity Church, came together to form one congregation in 1892; and

WHEREAS, after utilizing St. Paul's Church and Trinity Church for several years, the congregation was finally able to build the present-day building for Peace Lutheran in 1935, which received the addition of an educational wing in 1958 and which became handicapped accessible in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, led by Reverend Andrew Wahl, is currently the only Lutheran church serving Elizabeth Township and is active in supporting ministries both locally and throughout the world;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in celebrating your 150th anniversary.  Furthermore, we wish you continued success throughout your next 150 years of faith and service.
