Proclamation honoring the 40th anniversary of Milestone Centers for People with Behavioral and Intellectual Challenges.

WHEREAS, our County is fortunate to be graced by the presence of an innumerable amount of community service centers that assist our citizens in conquering health challenges; and
WHEREAS, for 40 years, Milestone Centers for People with Behavioral and Intellectual Challenges have provided consistent devotion to those who experience behavioral health challenges; and
WHEREAS, previously known as Allegheny East Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center, Incorporated, the organization started shortly after federal legislation removed institutional barriers from community care centers, allowing communities to foster focused services for those with challenges; and
WHEREAS, Milestone grew rapidly after it was established, and the institution developed a mission to better serve patients by integrating its services with Allegheny County communities to include citizens in its programs; and
WHEREAS, throughout its impressive history, Milestone has helped thousands of people overcome difficult obstacles, and it has certainly remained connected to its motto: “helping extraordinary people live ordinary lives”;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes the impressive 40th anniversary of Milestone. We commend your steadfast efforts to continually serve those with behavioral health challenges. Furthermore, we hope your mission of service will continue for many years into the future.
