Proclamation honoring the career of George J. Sacco and acknowledging the Township of O'Hara's dedication of George J. Sacco Park.

WHEREAS, throughout the history of our storied County, great citizens have answered the challenging call of duty by placing their lives at risk to secure the safety and protection of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Mr. George J. Sacco, who has served as fire marshal for the Township of O'Hara since 1989, has dedicated 80 years to serving our community by utilizing his invaluable knowledge of safety and fire fighting techniques; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sacco's fire fighting career started in 1929 with Atlantic Refining Company in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania; he later became assistant chief of the Gulf Research facility in Harmar Township, a position that would eventually lead him to joining the Guyasuta Volunteer Fire Department in O'Hara Township, where he retired from in 1983 as the chief of the company; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sacco has received an innumerable amount of distinctions and awards for his service, his dedication, and his mentorship, including being named “Fireman of the Year” by Allegheny County three times and receiving honorary membership at five volunteer fire departments and lifetime membership at two volunteer departments; and
WHEREAS, the service and veteran leadership that Mr. Sacco has displayed throughout his outstanding career will live in those who continue to serve at the fire departments that Mr. Sacco has influenced in his lifetime;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, honors the career and lifetime achievement of Mr. George J. Sacco. We thank him for his lifelong service to our community, and we acknowledge - along with the Township of O'Hara - the naming of George J. Sacco Park in his honor.
