Proclamation honoring Dr. Joseph Lagana for receiving the National Child Labor Committee's Lewis Hine Award.

WHEREAS, extraordinary men and women have produced outstanding organizations that have flourished in our community and have provided limitless services to those in our County who are less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, Dr. Joseph F. Lagana founded the Homeless Children's Education Fund - a non-profit organization ensuring that children who are homeless receive the same educational opportunities and experiences that their peers are given; and
WHEREAS, the fund's motto is “hope through learning,” and by focusing on raising public awareness about homelessness, the organization is able to provide invaluable services to homeless children across the County; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lagana volunteers for the fund regularly, and because of his countless efforts and commitment to the mission of the organization, he was given the Lewis Hine Award by the National Child Labor Committee; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lagana's vision was to help educate homeless children and to raise awareness in the community of the ill effects of homelessness; today, we can see before our eyes Dr. Lagana's vision becoming a reality;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of the County, hereby recognizes the innumerable efforts Dr. Joseph F. Lagana has exhibited to better the lives of the homeless children. Furthermore, we congratulate him on receiving the Lewis Hine Award and hope others will continue to recognize his efforts so his foundation's proactive mission is continually promoted and supported.
