Proclamations celebrating the achievement, scholarship and dedication of the 8th Annual Shyne Honorees.

WHEREAS, the 8th Annual Shyne Awards were presented on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Pittsburgh's Creative and Performing Arts High School in Downtown, Pittsburgh to recognize African American young adults, ages 13-19, for their achievements in nine categories, including the Arts, Academics, Community Service, Entrepreneurship, Overcoming Obstacles, Leadership, Science, Service in Ministry, and Young Adult Group; and
WHEREAS, the Shyne Awards, produced by The Darkins Group, LLC, motivates youth to become active leaders in the community; and
WHEREAS, this year the Shyne Awards are sponsored by Comcast, The Heinz Foundation, Highmark, Port Authority of Allegheny County and UPMC Center for Engagement & Inclusion, just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, during the annual Shyne Awards we pay tribute to the contributions of young African Americans and we celebrate their successes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby salutes the achievement, scholarship and dedication of the 8th Annual Shyne Honorees. Your enthusiastic willingness in pursuing this endeavor demonstrates your commitment to serving the people of the region, and for this we commend you.
