A Resolution of the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, naming and designating the Boyce Park Archery Range in honor of the late 1st Lt. Neil Anthony Santoriello

Whereas, the late 1st Lt. Neil Anthony Santoriello grew up in Verona, and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 139; and
Whereas, the 1st Lt. Santoriello's Eagle Scout project was to refurbish the Boyce Park Archery Range; and
Whereas, upon graduating from Penn Hills High School, 1st Lt. Santoriello was awarded an ROTC scholarship to Dickinson College, where he majored in Political Science; and
Whereas, after graduating from Dickinson, 1st Lt. Santoriello was commissioned in the Army in June 2002; and
Whereas, in August 2003, 1st Lt. Santoriello left for Iraq to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom as an armored officer and tank commander in the Army's 1st Infantry Division and Platoon Leader for Company A; and
Whereas, on August 13, 2004, two weeks from his return date, 1st Lt. Santoriello was killed near Fallujah when an improvised explosive device detonated near his mounted reconnaissance patrol vehicle; and
Whereas, 1st Lt. Santoriello left behind a father (Neil, Sr.), mother (Diane), a sister (Amy) and a wife (Lisa); and
Whereas, the County Executive and County Council believe that an appropriate and fitting way to honor the work and legacy of the late 1st Lt. Neil Santoriello would be to name the Boyce Park Archery Range in his memory.
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby resolves as follows:
Section 1. Incorporation of Preamble.
The provisions set forth in the preamble to this Resolution are incorporated by reference in their entity herein.
Section 2. Naming of the Boyce Park Archery Range.
The Boyce Park Archery Range is hereby designated and named as “1st Lt. Neil Anthony Santoriello Memorial Archery Range.”
Section 3. Authorization to Act to Execute Purposes of this Resolution.
