Proclamation recognizing Myasthenia Gravis Day on June 3, 2007 and 50 years of partnership between the Myasthenia Gravis Association and Mercy Hospital.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania was created in 1955 and has a long history of serving those with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder that can affect a variety of muscles.  While there is no known cure for MG, most patients can live normal lives with the help of medication; and

 

WHEREAS, the Myasthenia Gravis Association is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the campus of Mercy Hospital and provides a variety of services for those affected by MG; and

 

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Mercy Hospital's staff and the Myasthenia Gravis Association's staff have worked together to help patients from all over the tri-state area, providing diagnoses, treatment and care coordination; and

 

WHEREAS, we commend the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania for providing a timely and accurate diagnoses to patients as well as a comprehensive treatment plan, which gives patients affected by the disorder a greater quality of life and hope;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, does hereby proclaim June 3, 2007 as Myasthenia Gravis Day in Allegheny County.  On behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, this Council does hereby recognize and thank the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania and Mercy Hospital for assisting those with Myasthenia Gravis for over 50 years, serving as an inspiration to the residents of Allegheny County.
