Proclamation recognizing Ms. Heather Arnet, Director of the Women and Girls Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, for directing a documentary entitled "Madame Presidenta: Why Not U.S.?"

WHEREAS, in the United States, the month of March has been designated as Women's History Month in order to showcase and appreciate the immeasurable contributions women have made throughout our history; and
WHEREAS, Heather Arnet is a social activist dedicated to advancing social justice and gender equality for women and girls everywhere; and
WHEREAS, since 2004 Ms. Arnet has served as the CEO of the nonprofit Women and Girls Foundation in Southwestern Pennsylvania, which promotes women's rights and female leadership development; and
WHEREAS, to further assist in her advocacy for women, Heather wrote and directed "Madame Presidenta: Why Not U.S.? Vamos Meninas!" examining women's involvement and role in global politics, paying specific attention to Brazil as a major world economy led by female Presidenta, Dilma Rousseff; and
WHEREAS, Heather was inspired to make this film by her paternal grandmother Vivian Goldstein, who was the daughter of a suffragette; and
WHEREAS, Heather's maternal grandmother, Frances Bend, led by example, donating her time and talents to the community; and
WHEREAS, Heather was able to achieve great heights because her mother, Eileen Brooks, taught her that she could be or do or achieve anything;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby thank and commend Ms. Heather Arnet for her work in writing and directing "Madame Presidenta: Why Not U.S.? Vamos Meninas!"
