Proclamation congratulating the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of their 75th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the hundreds of volunteer fire departments located within Allegheny County have become mainstays of public safety and the protection of property within the County; and
WHEREAS, the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) has been responsible for providing fire protection, rescue service, and other emergency assistance for the Township of Upper St. Clair since 1939; and
WHEREAS, each year, the Upper St. Clair VFD responds to approximately 300 emergency calls, and answers calls for hazardous materials incidents, vehicle rescue, assistance to Township departments, and mutual aid assistance to fire departments in the surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, the Upper St. Clair VFD consists of 100% unpaid volunteers and relies on the generosity and support of the community to help maintain two stations, seven pieces of fire apparatus, training, insurance, equipment, and daily operating costs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department, Station 284, for its 75 years of dedicated public safety services to residents of the Township of Upper St. Clair and the surrounding communities. We commend the past and present firemen of the Department for their unflinching bravery and professionalism in the best tradition of the volunteer fire service, and offer our sincerest congratulations and best wishes for the future.
