Proclamations honoring the Modernettes upon the occasion of the group's 50th anniversary and their capture of the 2009 National Baton Twirling Association World Championship.
Body
WHEREAS, Allegheny County fosters great instructors and coaches who develop our community's outstanding young athletes and transform them into world-class competitors; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Modernettes have spread their goodwill, sportsmanship, showmanship, and incredible abilities not only throughout Allegheny County, but also throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, the group was initially instructed by Ruby Daugherty and Marlene Moore; Sherry Vignoli-Parisi - Ms. Daughtery's daughter - now directs the squad, enrolling them into the National Baton Twirling Association World Championships to compete against the world's best teams; and
WHEREAS, the Modernettes have won more awards than any other baton twirling corps in the United States, and they have competed in all seven of the triennial world championships, winning the gold six times; and
WHEREAS, by participating in competitions around the globe and by engaging with diverse competitors, the Modernettes serve as an ambassador of our County, spreading goodwill and the exceptional reputation of our County to many different cultures from around the world;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes the Modernettes upon the occasion of their 50th anniversary and for capturing the gold medal at the 2009 National Baton Twirling Association World Championships. We commend the group's commitment to success, and we wish the participants the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.
