Proclamation recognizing Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja for his work as the "Singing Doctor" at Magee- Womens Hospital of UPMC.
 
Body...
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja, of Hampton Township, delivers babies at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and has delivered more than 8,000 babies in his 32 years as an obstetrician/gynecologist; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Andrew-Jaja came to Pittsburgh in 1976 with his wife, Lorna, to pursue residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH); and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Arch inspired Dr. Andrew-Jaja to merge his hobby with his profession, and when Dr. Arch retired from AGH, he asked Dr. Andrew-Jaja to continue his singing tradition; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Andrew-Jaja sings 'Happy Birthday' to newborn babies, those he personally delivers and others, to welcome them to the world and soothe them in the delivery room and later in patient rooms; and
 
WHEREAS, the Nigerian-born doctor, who started out as a choirboy at the age of 8, enjoys singing solos at his church, Christ Episcopal Church in Ross Township. He sang for the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale for more than 20 years and serves on the board of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh;  
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja for his work as the "Singing Doctor" and we thank him for spreading joy and happiness to countless families in Allegheny County.
