Motion Expressing the Sense of Council of Allegheny County proclaiming Allegheny County in 2009 “The County of Champions” in recognition of the Pittsburgh Steelers winning their sixth Super Bowl title.

WHEREAS, on February 3, 2009, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Steelers Nation welcomed the Pittsburgh Steelers home with a victory parade, for winning Super Bowl XLIII against the Arizona Cardinals, 27-23, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 1, 2009; and
WHEREAS, this Council commends the Rooney family for their open, practical and efficient management of the Steelers and for bringing notoriety to the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, the Steelers are the only football team in the history of the National Football League to have won six Super Bowl titles; and
WHEREAS, this Council honors the amazing Pittsburgh Steelers and the Rooney family for brining the Vince Lombardi trophy back to the City of Champions for a record sixth time; and
WHEREAS, this Council thanks the Rooney family for establishing a world-class institution, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and for its tradition of excellence which serves as an inspiration to us all;
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS MOVED, AND IT IS THE SENSE OF THE COUNCIL OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY, that we hereby declare the County of Allegheny in 2009 as “The County of Champions” in honor of the Pittsburgh Steelers earning a sixth Super Bowl title.
