Proclamation honoring the 25th anniversary of Allegheny County Labor Council's Labor Day Parade.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County laborers have constituted a majority of the workforce of our communities for many generations and have been a key element in organizing our nation's labor movement; and

                     

WHEREAS, on September 7, 2009, the Allegheny County Labor Council celebrated the workers of our region and nation by conducting the 25th annual Labor Day Parade in downtown Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, the parade was founded through the resolution of Jim McHale, Candi Kaplan, Bill Fryberger, Tony Como, Donna Redinger, Lou Pappalardo and Bob Azen; and

 

WHEREAS, organizing the initial parade 25 years ago proved to be a great exertion of effort; however, the group persevered in the spirit of true laborers and were granted permission to host the event, which has become throughout the years a national representation of the importance of laborers and their rights; and

 

WHEREAS, this great milestone in the parade's history unified the men and women of the labor movement and connected them to the significant history of Allegheny County's workforce;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes the 25th anniversary of Allegheny County Labor Council's Labor Day Parade.  The event is a symbol of our region's fervent labor industry, and it has steadily become a nationally recognized occasion that represents the ethos of the laboring men and women of our country.
