Proclamation congratulating Mr. William Cherpak, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Thomas Jefferson High School for winning his 200th high school football game.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as Mr. William "Bill" Cherpak who has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both an inspiration and strong leader; and
WHEREAS, before joining Thomas Jefferson High School as the Head Varsity Football Coach in 1995, Mr. Cherpak served as an assistant football coach at Woodland Hills and Thomas Jefferson high schools; in 2004, Mr. Cherpak also became the athletic director at Thomas Jefferson; and
WHEREAS, under Coach Cherpak's leadership, the TJ Jaguars have won three PIAA Class AAA championships (2004, 2007, 2008), four WPIAL Class AAA championships (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008), and fifteen Conference Championships; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, October 25, 2013, the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars won 35-0 over West Mifflin in the Class AAA Big Nine Conference showdown, providing the 200th career victory for Coach Cherpak; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cherpak has an impressive 213-39 overall record, a winning percentage of 85 percent; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Coach Cherpak has established himself as one of the best high school football coaches in the nation having been named the 2004 Associated Press (AP) Pennsylvania AAA Football Coach of the Year, the 2008 ESPN RISE Eastern Division Football Coach of the Year, and Conference Coach of the Year in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2010;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Coach Bill Cherpak for winning his 200th high school football game, and we commend his indelible contributions to Allegheny County's long legacy of sports champions.
