Proclamation honoring the life and memory of the late Ms. Linda Turner Cobb, longtime City of Pittsburgh magistrate.
Body
WHEREAS, Ms. Linda Turner Cobb was appointed a City of Pittsburgh magistrate by then-Mayor Richard Caliguiri in 1986 and served for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, as a city magistrate, Ms. Cobb was respected by those who knew her and those who stood before her in court for her humanitarian approach to decisions and reasonable sentences; and
WHEREAS, she became a resident of the Perry Hilltop neighborhood and was a passionate advocate for community development, joining several neighborhood associations to help enhance Pittsburgh's North Side; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Cobb earned a juris doctorate degree from Duquesne University and after graduation held a six-year position as a trial lawyer in the district attorney's office; and
WHEREAS, away from the courtroom, Ms. Cobb learned how to ski and became an avid skier, taking trips around the world and throughout the country to glide down mountains and hilltops;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the late Ms. Linda Turner Cobb for her impact on this community and its citizens. Her commitment to public service is an inspiration to us all and, while we cannot hope to replace her, we can honor her memory by commending and emulating the spirit of her dedication.
