Proclamation naming Saturday, August 27, 2016 to be “The Salvation Army’s Most Amazing Race Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, The Salvation Army’s Most Amazing Race is an annual city-wide challenge race held in and around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on a Saturday each Fall. Patterned after the CBS show “The Amazing Race,” this Most Amazing Race combines challenges that are physical (kayaking, running, rock climbing), mental (puzzle solving, strategizing), and fun (singing, eating contests); and

WHEREAS, teams of two are given a clue leading them to another checkpoint and they must successfully complete challenges-following clues-until they reach the end of the race. The conclusion of the race involves a check presentation to the winning team as well as prizes to other top performing teams; and

WHEREAS, teams raise funds to benefit The Salvation Army’s youth programming in Allegheny County, which will help the agency provide a safe haven, as well as nutritious food, recreational activities and educational opportunities to help children reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, since its founding in Great Britain in 1865, the Salvation Army has provided humanitarian relief and spiritual guidance to people throughout the world. Its members continue its compassionate tradition of helping wherever there is hunger, disease, destitution, and spiritual need;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend The Salvation Army for its continued dedication to helping meet the physical and spiritual needs of people in Allegheny County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and across the Nation, and we hereby declare Saturday, August 27, 2016 to be “The Salvation Army’s Most Amazing Race Day” in Allegheny County.
