Proclamation congratulating John Slater for being named the 2008 Citizen of the Year by the South Hills Record.

WHEREAS, Brentwood business owner Mr. John Slater was recently named “2008 Citizen of the Year” by the South Hills Record; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Mr. Slater is the owner of the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., a highly successful family-owned business that he joined in 1976; and

                     

WHEREAS, in addition to his work at the funeral home, Mr. Slater also serves as Chairperson of Economic Development South and as President of the Brentwood Business Owners Association; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to his present involvement with these organizations, Mr. Slater served with the Brentwood, Baldwin, Whitehall Chamber of Commerce for several years, during which time he served for two years as the Chamber's President; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Slater has spent the past decade pushing for the revitalization of the Brentwood, Baldwin and Whitehall areas.  He was instrumental in establishing Brentwood Towne Square in 2002 and is currently planning for the complete renovation of the properties along Route 51, the revitalization of more than 15 shopping centers in the Brentwood, Baldwin, and Whitehall areas, and the creation of a bike path connecting Pittsburgh to the trail in Jefferson Hills, which leads to Washington, D.C.;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council congratulates Mr. John Slater for being named the “2008 Citizen of the Year” by the South Hills Record.  We commend you for the commitment you have demonstrated to making Allegheny County a more beautiful place to live.
