Resolution of the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, changing the name of the Seventh Street Bridge to the Andy Warhol Bridge.

WHEREAS, born in 1928, Andy Warhol began his career as a very successful commercial illustrator, before his 32 Campbell's Soup Cans was exhibited in 1962 in the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his career Andy Warhol transformed contemporary art by employing mass-production techniques to create works, challenging pre-conceived notions about the nature of art and the very find distinction between fine art and popular culture; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is home to the Andy Warhol Museum which preserves, exhibits, and interprets the extensive collection of Andy Warhol work, including 273 preserved Warhol films, 228 four-minute screen tests, 4,000 works of media-paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, and installation, as well as an archive for the general public and scholars;
WHEREAS, the world-renowned Andy Warhol Museum brings much notoriety and pride to Allegheny County and this region and should be recognized in a more public manner.
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby resolves as follows:
SECTION 1.
The Seventh Street Bridge shall hereby official be re-named the Andy Warhol Bridge in honor of the artist and in recognition of the pride that the museum bearing his name brings to Allegheny County.
SECTION 2. If any provision of this Resolution shall be determined to be unlawful, invalid, void or unenforceable, then that provision shall be considered severable from the remaining provisions of this Resolution which shall be in full force and effect.
SECTION 3. Any Resolution or Ordinance or part thereof conflicting with the provisions of this Resolution is hereby repealed so far as the same affects this Resolution.
