Proclamation recognizing Braddock's Battlefield History Center which commemorates the Battle of the Monongahela, or "Braddock's Defeat" on July 9, 1755 at the beginning of the French & Indian War.

WHEREAS, established on August 18, 2012, Braddock's Battlefield History Center is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania museum and visitors center located at 609 Sixth Street in North Braddock, on the site of the Battle of the Monongahela, or "Braddock's Defeat" on July 9, 1755; and
WHEREAS, Braddock's Battlefield History Center features more than 250 genuine artifacts and 50 works of art, documents, and video about the Braddock Expedition and the French and Indian War as it unfolded at the Forks of the Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the Center features the famed work of Robert Griffing and John Buxton, two artists who have encouraged scholarship of the French and Indian War period by  providing  visual images critical to an understanding of important events; and
WHEREAS, the Center is a great family experience and a place where people of all ages can explore and learn about the French and Indian War;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and encourage all residents of Allegheny County to visit Braddock's Battlefield History Center, and we thank Mr. Robert T. Messner and the foundations that supported his efforts to establish a tourism center befitting this significant historic event.
