Proclamation thanking the Physician Assistants in Allegheny County for the medical care they provide throughout the year, and proclaiming the week of October 6-12, 2006 as "Physician Assistant Week" in Allegheny County.
Body
WHEREAS, on October 6, 1967, the first Physician Assistants graduated from Duke University. Today, there are more than 60,000 Physician Assistants in the United States and over 4,000 practicing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Physician Assistants are recognized as important members of the health care delivery team working closely with their supervising physicians to enhance the quality of medical care in Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County is fortunate to have a fully accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program at the Master's level at Chatham College which provides academic and clinical training that prepares its graduates to be certified and licensed to practice as extenders to the practicing physician, especially the primary care physician, in a competent and reliable manner; and
WHEREAS, Physician Assistants throughout the nation and the state will celebrate the week of October 6-12, 2006 as National Physician Assistant Week;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council gives a heartfelt thanks to the Physician Assistants in Allegheny County for the medical care they provide throughout the year, and does hereby proclaim the week of October 6-12, 2006 as “Physician Assistant Week” in Allegheny County.
