Proclamation honoring the Allegheny County chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction and declaring from March 1st through March 7th as "Woman in Construction Week" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County continues to strive for higher levels of construction and development growth and is committed to reaffirming the goals of fair opportunities for women and minorities in the construction industry; and
WHEREAS, the National Association of Women in Construction is a non-profit, international organization that promotes and supports the advancement and employment of women in the construction industry; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1955 in Texas, the organization now serves approximately 5,500 members in 190 chapters in the United States and Canada, as well as affiliates in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 161, the Pittsburgh chapter of the association, includes women who are actively employed in all aspects of the construction industry, such as business owners, managers, consultants, tradeswomen, operators, architects, accountants and attorneys;
WHEREAS, the week of March 1, 2009, the association's chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada will celebrate the 10th Annual Women in Construction Week;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, recognizes and commends the women who participate in the construction industry throughout Western Pennsylvania. Furthermore, we hereby declare the week of March 1, 2009 as “Women in Construction Week” in Allegheny County.
