Proclamations honoring Mr. John D. McMahon's career of service to Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County serves as the home of dedicated citizens, mentors and role models who enhance our area's quality of life by selflessly serving our community; and
WHEREAS, after an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Mr. John D. McMahon served Allegheny County for 40 years as a sworn police officer, spending 31 years with the City of Pittsburgh including 21 years as a supervisor in the Operation and Investigation Branches, and nine years as a sworn detective for the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, which includes his eventual appointment to assistant chief of detectives of the District Attorney's Narcotics Enforcement Team; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McMahon has served our community as a police officer in an impressive and comprehensive fashion, beginning as a patrol officer and climbing the ladder to sergeant and then to commander; and
WHEREAS, as a commander of the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Mr. McMahon oversaw Pittsburgh Zone One and Pittsburgh Zone Four, providing unparalleled guidance to these communities and offering valuable insight to other police officers; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career, Mr. McMahon trained to improve his leadership abilities; this dedication allowed him to give countless duties to the service, which we hope will learn from his outstanding example as he retires;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes, commends and commemorates Mr. John D. McMahon for his commitment to serving our community. We hope the citizens of our County mirror and cherish his great example, and we wish him the best as he embarks on his well-earned retirement.
