Proclamation recognizing Brenda L. Frazier for her efforts in fighting for women's rights, which were recognized during Women's History Month last March.

WHEREAS, this county has bared witness to some of the most recognizable activists who have fought diligently for equal women's rights, which were recognized in March during Women's History Month; and
WHEREAS, Brenda L. Frazier embodies the relentless qualities of an activist unafraid of voicing her beliefs, which called for equality and demanded to be heard; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier has come a long way since growing up in segregated public housing, where her mother - a school teacher - taught her to confront injustice rather than bemoan it; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier became a school teacher and engulfed herself in civic affairs related to racial and gender inequality in health care and education; and
WHEREAS, by continuing her persistent pursuit of change, Ms. Frazier broke barriers in 2001 as the first African-American female elected to Allegheny County Council, where she helped the county progress in the future during her seven years of service;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes Brenda L. Frazier for her lifelong dedication to fighting for equal women's rights. Furthermore, we hope she continues to remain active in our community, where many citizens view her as an iconic figure.
