Proclamation commending the efforts that the public libraries of Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Library Association have taken to serve the County as long-standing destinations for knowledge, personal development, entertainment and social interaction, and declaring April 2006 "One Book, One Community Month" in Allegheny County.
Body
WHEREAS, libraries in Allegheny County have served county residents in 130 neighborhoods for up to 100 years; and
WHEREAS, the libraries of Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Library Association are essential community anchors, providing programs that promote positive change and help neighborhoods flourish; and
WHEREAS, recent collaborative efforts have embraced the future, creating access to technology and materials among all libraries so that no community is underserved; and
WHEREAS, these collaborative efforts have set the ground work for the future of libraries in Allegheny County and increased the level of public service county-wide while maintaining a local focus to provide positive and nurturing environments for lifelong literacy throughout the County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County Council of Allegheny County commends the efforts that the public libraries of Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Library Association have taken to serve the County as a long-standing destinations for knowledge, personal development, entertainment and social interaction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council of Allegheny County does hereby declare April 2006, to be One Book, One Community Month in Allegheny County. Please visit your local library to participate.
