Proclamation recognizing Ms. Alexa Coughenour, a Thomas Jefferson High School sophomore, for her selfless volunteer work with the Jubilee Soup Kitchen.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have individuals, such as Ms. Alexa Coughenour, who selflessly volunteer their time and energy to good causes; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Coughenour, a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School, used her 16th birthday to help the 170 families who depend on the Jubilee Soup Kitchen in Pittsburgh's Uptown neighborhood for their daily meals; and
WHEREAS, for the celebration of her milestone, Alexa asked guests to bring donations of money and non-perishable food items, rather than the typical teenage girl presents; and
WHEREAS, Alexa, daughter of Cindy and Art Coughenour from Jefferson Hills, first volunteered with the soup kitchen as an eighth grader through her CCD class at St. Thomas A'Becket Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, her guests, mostly friends from school, showered her with $300 in monetary donations, canned goods, non-perishable foods and blankets. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, they delivered all the goods to the Jubilee Soup Kitchen;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby thank Ms. Alexa Coughenour for serving a cause greater than self, and we commend you for giving back to the community. You have set a high standard of commitment and dedication which the citizens of our great County of Allegheny may follow, and which serves as an inspiration to this Council and the residents of Allegheny County.
