Proclamation honoring William Gadson for being named the 2014 Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Pennsylvania Youth of the Year.

WHEREAS, for the past 13 years, Mr. William Gadson has been a member of LaRosa Boys & Girls Club in McKeesport, an organization providing recreation and social programs for youth which focus on building leadership and character development; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gadson, a McKeesport Area High School senior, now serves as a youth coach for the LaRosa Boys & Girls Club; and
WHEREAS, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America has named Mr. Gadson the 2014 Pennsylvania Youth of the Year and as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship; and
WHEREAS, before a panel of judges, Mr. Gadson eloquently described the challenges residents of McKeesport face, along with the negative perception of the city. He shared his perspective that with positive role models and a range of activities, young people can overcome the negative aspects of their environment and ultimately succeed in their personal and professional lives; and
WHEREAS, the "Youth of the Year" program, founded in 1947, celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments. These deserving young people are recognized for service to their Club and community, academic performance and contributions to their family;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor Mr. William Gadson for being named the 2014 Boys & Girls Clubs of America "Pennsylvania Youth of the Year" and we wish him future success at the upcoming Northeast Regional Youth of the Year Competition in New York City. Mr. Gadson's achievement has set a high standard of commitment and dedication which the youth of our great County may follow and serves as an inspiration to this Council and the citizens of Allegheny County.
