Proclamation celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club.

WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club, a non-profit group, was founded in January 1973 to protect and advance the interests of the Golden Retriever breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, field, obedience, agility, and tracking trials; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club earned American Kennel Club (AKC) approval for its first sanctioned breed match in September 1973; and
WHEREAS, the Club also educates the community about the Golden Retriever breed, and provides support and information to help ensure a long and loving relationship between owners and their Golden's; and
WHEREAS, in 1988, the Club earned an AKC license to hold Hunting Retriever Tests; in 2000, the Club earned an AKC license to hold agility trials, and in 1980, 1984, 1993 and 2004, the Club served as host of the Golden Retriever Club of America's Eastern Regional Specialty and Obedience Trials; and
WHEREAS, the Club strives to enhance the natural abilities of Golden Retrievers through training, and encourages responsible breeding to maintain the high standards and integrity of the Golden Retriever; in 1994, the Club established a rescue program called the Golden Retriever Rescue in Pittsburgh (GRRIP); and
WHEREAS, four original members, Penelope Billings, Barbara Brock, Elizabeth Coll, and Grace Keller West remain active in the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club today;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club upon the momentous occasion of its 35th anniversary. Furthermore, this Council commends the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club for its dedication and commitment to promoting the Golden Retriever breed.
