Proclamation congratulating Mr. Alexander Wilson upon the momentous occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center.

WHEREAS, for 27 years, Mr. Alexander Wilson has distinguished himself as a professional dedicated to serving the community through his work at the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. For 11 years he served as director of training and staff development for the Center, and in 1991, he was promoted to Executive Director, serving in this capacity for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson obtained both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson is the immediate past President of the Juvenile Detention Centers Association of Pennsylvania, where he also served as Vice-President. In 1998, he was appointed by Governor Tom Ridge to serve on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency's Juvenile Advisory Committee, and in 2003, he was reappointed by Governor Ed Rendell. He also serves on the Pittsburgh Board of Education's Interagency Council on Drugs, Alcohol and Weapons; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson has been a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church since 1991 and serves on its Sharing and Caring Ministry delivering meals to the sick and shut-in; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson retired from the United States Air Force Reserves in October 2004 after serving 28 years;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby congratulates Mr. Alexander Wilson upon the momentous occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center. This Council commends Mr. Wilson for his dedication and commitment to serving the community and we wish him all the best on his well-deserved retirement.
