Proclamation declaring March 29, 2008 "Bon Ami Temple No. 49 Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the Bon-Ami Temple No. 49 has been in existence in the City of Pittsburgh since its founding on December 12, 1912 and is part of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World; and
WHEREAS, this outstanding fraternal organization has helped to fulfill various cultural and social achievements throughout its proud history by contributing to many worthy causes such as Camp Achievement, the Sickle Cell society, the Burn Unit of West Penn Hospital and Womanspace East, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Annual Community Awards Honoring and Dinner Celebration will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008; and
WHEREAS, praise and recognition will be given for the outstanding achievements of several notable local citizens, including Mrs. Michelle Brown, longtime owner of Family Pride Poultry, Mrs. Dorothea Parker, the first black female Sheriff of Allegheny County, and Mr. Richard Witherspoon, CEO of the Hill District Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Elk, Brother Leonard B. Smith, PSP, Booker T. Washington Lodge #218 and Ms. Elk, Daughter Carmela Thomas, PGDR, Oak Leaf Temple #96 will also be recognized as part of the ceremony;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the County of Allegheny hereby declares Saturday, March 29, 2008 “Bon-Ami Temple No. 49 Day” in the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We commend Bon-Ami Temple No. 49 for your continued efforts towards serving our community and we congratulate the 2008 awardees for their achievements. Your hard work is truly an inspiration to this Council and to the citizens of Allegheny County.
