Proclamation recognizing the 100th anniversary of the founding of Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company.

WHEREAS, throughout our historic county's existence, dedicated public service organizations have unselfishly sacrificed their time for the protection of our communities; and
WHEREAS, Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company was officially incorporated in O'Hara Township on March 9, 1909, approximately 100 years ago; and
WHEREAS, a four-wheel, hand-drawn fire cart was the department's first official fire truck; in 1927, the company outfitted members with uniforms consisting of blue trousers, a fireman's cap, a white shirt and a black bowtie; and in 1929, the company purchased the old Seitz School House, which is the site of the current firehouse; and
WHEREAS, the company has hosted thousands of community activities around O'Hara Township; from the Bingo games held in the 1930s to the events held today, the company provides a sense of community for O'Hara citizens; and
WHEREAS, since 1909, over 300 members have been affiliated with the company. Today, the company's 17 members follow past members' tradition by sacrificing to protect the safety and property of the citizens in O'Hara Township;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, this Council hereby commends Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company's 100 years of service. Furthermore, we hope other fire companies in our community can follow your examples of dedication to community service.
