WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Women Work! is an affiliate of Women Work!, the national network for women's employment. Over the past two decades, Pennsylvania Women Work! and its 22 member New Choices programs across the Commonwealth have provided a holistic approach to economic self-sufficiency for over 150,000 women in transition; and

WHEREAS, on September 21st, 2006, the sixth “Expanding the Circle of Hope” event will take place at the Hilton Pittsburgh, where Mr. S. Tyrone (Ty) Alexander will receive the prestigious “Circle of Hope” Award for his incredible support to the organization for more than 15-plus years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander is executive vice president, human resources and administrative services for Highmark, Inc. In this position, he provides executive leadership and strategic direction in the development and implementation of policies and programs related to human resources, including staffing, benefits, compensation, employee relations and training and development for over 11,000 employees; and

WHEREAS, prior to his position at Highmark in Pittsburgh, he was senior vice president human resources and services for Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York City. During the past 35 years, Mr. Alexander has served in human resources and operational executive positions with CIGNA Healthcare, DuPont, Sara Lee, Pitney Bowes and Corning; and

WHEREAS, he has served on numerous boards and is currently a member of the Institute for Supply Management (Chair of the Finance and Compensation Committees), and the Epilepsy Foundation Board (National board member) and he is a commissioner for the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board. Mr. Alexander is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management, Human Resources Executive Roundtable and the Human Resource Institute;
