Proclamation commending Mr. William McCormley upon his receipt of the Clairton Chamber of Commerce 29th Annual Citizen of the Year Award.

WHEREAS, the Clairton Chamber of Commerce will honor its 29th annual Citizen of the Year, Mr. William M. McCormley, on March 2, 2006, for his many years of community service; and

WHEREAS, from 1968 to 1972, he served as president, coach and volunteer for Clairton Little League Baseball, from 1970 to 1972, he coached the St. Paulinus Catholic Youth Organization Basketball Team, and from 1972 to 1999, he volunteered and coached Little League and Pony & Colt Baseball in the communities of Clairton, Elizabeth, Mt. Vernon and Dravosburg; and

WHEREAS, he volunteered as Catholic Chaplin at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in the mid-1980's, and in 1995, he received a Merit Award from the Center for Victim's of Violent Crime. He is a member of the Crime Watch Committee in Clairton and is organizing a new Crime Watch Program for Wilson; and

WHEREAS, he was CEO of Clairton Recycling Center, a member of the Community Economic Development Corporation of Clairton, and the Clairton Representative for the Steel Valley Authority, earning the Citizen of the Year Award from the Mon Valley Initiative in 1985; and

WHEREAS, he has been a member of the National AARP since 1983, AARP 612 in Wilson, AARP 2862 in Clairton, founding member of the Wilson Civic Association, original organizer of Hercules/Picco Retirees Association, member of Citizen Advisory Panel for Kopper's Inc., member of the Redevelopment Authority, Co-chair of the Planning Commission, member of the Vacant Property Recovery Committee, and a member of Clairton Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, for more than 25 years he has served the parish of St. Paulinus and St. Clare of Assisi as Eucharistic Minister, volunteer and fundraiser;
