Proclamation congratulating Mr. Emmai Alaquiva upon the occasion of his second Daytime Emmy Nomination and thanking him for his community service.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our region, such as Mr. Emmai Alaquiva, a Wilkinsburg native and 2008 Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, producer, entrepreneur and mentor; and
WHEREAS, once homeless, staying in local shelters across the City of Pittsburgh, Mr. Alaquiva worked hard to become the CEO of Ya Momz House, Inc., a full-service multimedia company and recording studio in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh, and as the founder and Executive Director of Hip Hop on L.O.C.K., a nationally recognized arts education program serving youth in grades K-12; and
WHEREAS, actively involved in the community, Mr. Alaquiva is the recipient of numerous awards including the Urban Empowerment Award (Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh), Community Youth Leader (YWCA), Pittsburgh Courier's "FAB 40," Pittsburgh Magazine's "40 Under 40" and Whirl Magazine's "Pittsburgh's 50 Finest," just to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Alaquiva has been nominated for an "Outstanding Children's Series" at the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards for his work directing CBS's television show, Game Changers; In 2008, Mr. Alaquiva won an Emmy Award for best film score;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Emmai Alaquiva upon the occasion of his second Daytime Emmy Nomination, and we thank Mr. Alaquiva for his unwavering commitment to serving others, for this dedication serves as an inspiration to this Council and to the residents of Allegheny County.
