Proclamation recognizing the volunteer efforts of Port Vue area residents Gary Kulka, Dan Miller, Paul Bennett, Tim Wilson, and Bruce Synir.

WHEREAS, following a devastating house fire in Port Vue on May 18, 2007, five Port Vue area residents demonstrated the true meaning of community service; and
WHEREAS, residents Gary Kulka, Dan Miller, Paul Bennett, Tim Wilson, and Bruce Synir took it upon themselves to assist their fellow neighbor and her two children in the rebuilding process after their home was heavily damaged in the fire; and
WHEREAS, the volunteers participated in gutting the house, rebuilding the second level, rewiring the electrical system, and painting the outside of the house; and
WHEREAS, the men also took charge of soliciting building materials from local businesses, in order to cover the substantial costs of the rebuilding process; and
WHEREAS, by providing their time and services, the five volunteers were able to complete the renovation by the end of August, and in doing so, provided the opportunity for the children to have a home to return to at the end of the school day;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend Port Vue area residents Gary Kulka, Dan Miller, Paul Bennett, Tim Wilson, and Bruce Synir for the volunteering efforts that they have demonstrated in order to assist their neighbor and her children. Your actions following the events of May 18, 2007 serve as an inspiration to this Council and the residents of Allegheny County.
