Proclamation celebrating the 60th anniversary of Whitehall Borough.

WHEREAS, in 1948, the Borough of Whitehall officially became a municipality after separating from Baldwin Township; and
WHEREAS, located in the South Hills, Whitehall has developed significantly throughout the past 60 years; and
WHEREAS, a home-rule municipality, Whitehall is governed by its current Mayor, Jim Nowalk, and a seven-person Borough Council, led by Council President Robert McKown; and
WHEREAS, a strong focus on public safety and wellness has made Whitehall stand out from other communities, with its state-of-the-art police building and full-time police force; and
WHEREAS, in addition to several playgrounds and baseball fields located throughout the Borough, the Whitehall municipal complex offers residents the opportunity to enjoy all the Borough has to offer, including a public library, a large swimming pool, a wading pool, tennis courts and a community room; and
WHEREAS, Whitehall Borough has received multiple distinctions, including being named one of the “200 Safest Places in America” and one of two “Most Livable Communities” in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, Whitehall Borough will celebrate its 60th anniversary on August 23, 2008 with a Community Day celebration, which will include special prizes and giveaways, commemorative 5K race shirts, entertainment tributes, and much more;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with the Borough of Whitehall in celebrating its 60th anniversary. We are proud to share in this momentous occasion with you and wish you continued success in your next 60 years.
