Proclamation saluting the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar and declaring November 3, 2007 Jazz Day in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar combines the best in scholarship, performance, community involvement, cultural diversity, and musicianship in order to celebrate of one of America's most original forms of art; and
WHEREAS, for more than three decades, renowned jazz musician and educator Nathan T. Davis, Ph.D. has been instrumental in bringing the world's greatest jazz innovators to the city of Pittsburgh in the role of visiting “professors”; and
WHEREAS, some of the greatest names in jazz history have lectured and performed at the Jazz Seminar, including Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, "Toots" Thielmans, Herbie Mann, and Art Farmer, among many others; and
WHEREAS, the Jazz Seminar provides an unparalleled opportunity for attendees from all walks of life to learn from the masters of the jazz genre through thought-provoking lectures and performances;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the County Council of Allegheny proudly salutes the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar for its pioneering efforts in bringing the best in jazz to the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County for the past 37 years. It is with great pleasure that we declare Saturday, November 3, 2007 Jazz Day in Allegheny County.
