Proclamation celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania National Organization for Women, Inc. at their annual conference in Pittsburgh from October 12-14, 2007 and thanking NOW for their dedication towards obtaining equal rights for all women.

WHEREAS, on October 12-14, 2007 at the Pittsburgh Hilton, the Pennsylvania National Organization for Women, Inc. (NOW) will celebrate its 35th anniversary and the passage of Title IX that mandates equal access for women in education and sports programs; and
WHEREAS, PA NOW remains a grassroots, non-profit, volunteer organization with over 9,000 members and 30 chapters statewide; the agency belongs to the National Organization for Women based in Washington, DC which has over 500,000 members; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the 2007 annual convention is “Remembering Our Past, Building the Future” and the keynote speaker is Eleanor Smeal, Executive Director of the Feminist Majority and Founding President of Pennsylvania NOW, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the plenary and workshops will look back at PA NOW's history over the last 35 years and the progress of building a feminist future of full equality; and
WHEREAS, a fundraising auction, entertainment, exhibitors and a PA NOW Political Action Committee breakfast will help raise funds to elect more feminist women and men to elected office in Pennsylvania;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the significant contributions of Pennsylvania NOW to advancing women's rights and we join in celebration of the organization's 35th anniversary. We salute the Pennsylvania NOW members that are working together to bring about equal rights for all women.
