This Certificate of Recognition is presented West Mifflin Area High School Senior Cassandra Furnival, the Founder and President of the Organization of Charitable Youth (OCY). Ms. Furnival created OCY in 2006 and since that time, several organizations have benefited from the commitment of OCY's members to serving their community. Past initiatives have included the Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade (2006), Caroling for Cancer to benefit St. Jude's (2006 & 2007), Produce to People to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Area Community Food Bank (2007), the Soldier Benefit Dance (2007), the Walk America campaign to benefit the March of Dimes (2007), a bake sale to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Macy's Shop for a Cause, a Campaign for ROPARD to raise awareness and money for juvenile blindness (2008), and most recently, “A Night With the Stars” Talent Show, to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation (2008). In addition to all of her hard work with OCY, Ms. Furnival has proven herself to be an exemplary leader among her peers, serving as a leader in several school-related activities and clubs, including Quest, the National Honor Society, Physics Club, Math Club, and Student Council. She is also the recipient of countless awards and recognitions, including Who's Who Among American High School Students, the National Society of High School Scholars, and the Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement National Merit Award. Your devotion to serving your community is unparalleled and you have proven yourself to be a role model not only for your peers, but for the Members of this Council and all the residents of Allegheny County.
