Proclamation commending the Catholic Charities Free Health Care Center in Downtown Pittsburgh, who recently served their 1,000th patient.

WHEREAS, nearly 200 years ago, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh began providing our area's neediest men, women, and children with support programs and services; and
WHEREAS, in November 2007, Catholic Charities opened a Free Health Care Center in Downtown Pittsburgh with the mission of providing excellent primary health care for individuals and families of any religion who are unable to access affordable health care; and
WHEREAS, since opening its doors, the Center has seen an outstanding response from the Pittsburgh-area community, with the 1,000th client being served on March 18, 2008, a milestone that was celebrated with Bishop David Zubik; and
WHEREAS, medical services include primary care, physician consultations, lab services, preventative care, women's health, eye care, and chronic disease management; and
WHEREAS, in addition to medical services, the Center also provides various dental services, including exams and x-rays, cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, partial & full dentures, and periodontal treatment; and
WHEREAS, the Center's staff is comprised of several volunteer and paid health care and health care-related professionals, all of whom serve their clients with the utmost compassion and respect;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council congratulates the staff and volunteers of the Catholic Charities Free Health Care Center on the recent milestone of treating your 1,000th patient. Furthermore, we commend you for your commitment to providing the residents of Allegheny County with safe, affordable health care, which serves as an inspiration to the members of this Council.
