Proclamation recognizing Kerry Katz for being named to the prestigious All-USA Academic Team.

WHEREAS, Penn Hills native, Kerry Katz is one of 20 students nationwide named to the prestigious All-USA Academic Team and will receive a $5,000 scholarship; and
WHEREAS, the All-USA program is widely recognized as the most prestigious academic honor for students attending associate degree-granting institutions. The program also recognizes students who extend their community college education to better themselves, their schools and their surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, during the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) virtual convention in May, Kerry will be recognized for her outstanding intellectual achievement, leadership, and community and campus engagement; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the scholarship funds, Kerry will be presented with a commemorative medallion; and
WHEREAS, the president of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Mu Theta Chapter, Kerry has spearheaded several successful projects, including a pre-election Q&A with representatives from the Allegheny County Board of Elections. She and her team of Phi Theta Kappa officers led a fundraising campaign for the Allegheny Campus Cupboard food pantry, resulting in a total of $3,500 raised to help meet the increased student need due to the pandemic. Outside of school, Kerry volunteers as a docent at the National Aviary and at Humane Animal Rescue in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, in May, Kerry will graduate with a Mathematics and Sciences University Parallel associate degree and will transfer to a four-year university in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s in ecology, conservation biology or wildlife science; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Nick Futules, do hereby recognize Kerry Katz for being named to the prestigious All-USA Academic Team, and we commend her for her outstanding intellectual achievement, leadership, and ...
