Proclamation honoring the life and legacy of late District Judge Armand Martin and declaring May 3, 2008 "Armand Martin Day" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been blessed with exemplary leaders who have made invaluable contributions to our communities, our County and the world; and
WHEREAS, throughout his life, Mr. Armand Martin contributed to the safety and well-being of the residents of Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin joined the Clairton police force in 1968 and graduated from the Allegheny County Police Academy in 1974. He served with the police force until 1985, during which time he earned two citations for capturing the suspects of two separate bank robberies; and
WHEREAS, following his tenure with the police force, Mr. Martin worked in the Allegheny County Human Resources Department until 1992, when he was elected District Judge for Clairton; and
WHEREAS, as a District Judge, Mr. Martin ruled on more than 30,000 cases in the Clairton, Glassport, Liberty, and Port Vue areas and focused much of his attention on working with youths, encouraging them to take more positive paths in life; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin, in addition to his work as a police officer and a judge, also made time to play the role of announcer at Clairton High School's football games and fulfilled his love of singing as a performer with the oldies band, “Chuck Corby and Quiet Storm”;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council honors the life and legacy of Mr. Armand Martin, who exemplified the meaning of “public servant” through his life's work. Furthermore, we hereby proclaim May 3, 2008 “Armand Martin Day” in Allegheny County. We join with Mr. Martin's family and friends and all the residents of Allegheny County in remembering him on this day, and always.
