Proclamation celebrating the 150th anniversary of Greenock United Methodist Church.

WHEREAS, for the past 150 years, Greenock United Methodist Church has been serving the residents of the Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, originally a part of the Dravo Methodist Church, Greenock Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1850 and conducted its first service on November 28, 1858 with the Reverend D. Wakefield; and
WHEREAS, throughout its 150-year history, the church has served the community as a town hall, a scout haven, a worship sanctuary, an air-raid shelter, a graduation hall, an emergency refuge, and a club meeting place; and
WHEREAS, during the first half of the 20th century, the church dropped “Episcopal” from its name and in 1968, the Methodist Church joined with the Evangelical United brethren to become the United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, under the current leadership of new pastor, the Reverend Patricia Cleary, Greenock United Methodist Church continues to serve as a place of faith-based worship for the Elizabeth Township community; and
WHEREAS, the church will celebrate this momentous occasion with a special worship service, open house, and luncheon;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with Greenock United Methodist Church in celebrating your 150th anniversary. Furthermore, we wish you continued success throughout your next 150 years of faith and service.
