Proclamation celebrating Black Horizons' 40th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, Black Horizons, the nation's longest running minority affairs program on public television, is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Pittsburgh's WQED-TV; and
WHEREAS, the program premiered in April 1968, and early hosts Don Marbury and Ralph Proctor provided Pittsburgh's African-American community with a distinct public voice during trying times; and
WHEREAS, Chris Moore has hosted Black Horizons for 28 years, and he has brought attention to many topics affecting African Americans during his tenure at the helm of the program; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, Mr. Moore produced and narrated Wylie Avenue Days, an Emmy Award-winning documentary describing the great history of Pittsburgh's Hill District; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of co-producer Moore and producer Minette Seate, whose service is an integral part of the program's success, the landmark television show continues to shine a light on issues important to the nation's African-American community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, celebrates Black Horizons' 40th Anniversary and hereby declares February 22, 2009 “Black Horizons' Day” in Allegheny County. Furthermore, this council looks forward to the continued success of this important program.
