Motion expressing the Sense of Council of Allegheny County, urging the Federal Government, specifically the United States Postal Service, to reconsider its decision to end its contract for mail transport equipment operations with Resource Consultants, Inc. (RCI) in Warrendale.

body

                     WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has contracted with Resource Consultants, Inc. (RCI) since July 1999 for mail transport equipment throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Southern New York; and

                     WHEREAS, the facility processes in excess of nine (9) million pieces each year and has received the “Best in Network” and Eagle Spirit Awards from the U.S. Postal Service in recognition of the facility's outstanding work as a top performer; and

                     WHEREAS, RCI employs one-hundred fifty individuals from Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Lawrence, and Westmoreland Counties, with average annual compensation packages of $39,000 per employee; and

                     WHEREAS, the Mail Transport Equipment Service Center (MTESC) in Warrendale is a low-cost, high-quality provider of services with dedicated, hard-working employees; and

                     WHEREAS, the loss of the Postal Service contract at the Warrendale site will result in the loss of 150 jobs here and 150 jobs in a sister-facility in Detroit, MI, as RCI consolidates both sites into one to open in June 2004, operated by another company in Cleveland, OH;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS MOVED, AND IT IS THE SENSE OF THE COUNCIL OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY, that we urge the Federal Government, specifically the United States Postal Service, to reconsider its decision to end its contract for mail transport equipment operations with Resource Consultants, Inc. (RCI) in Warrendale

BE IT FURTHER MOVED that copies of this motion be transmitted to Senators Specter and Santorum and the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Allegheny County; that they may know of our support for this endeavor.
