Proclamation commending the volunteers at the Plum Senior Community Center.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Senior Community Centers serve as a symbol of the importance of providing senior citizens with the resources that they need in order to continue living fulfilling lives through later adulthood; and

WHEREAS, many Senior Community Centers would not be able to operate without the help of dedicated volunteers; and

WHEREAS, since 1980, the Plum Senior Community Center has relied heavily on the commitment of its volunteers so that it can provide adults ages 55 and over with traditional senior services and opportunities to socialize and give back to their community; and

WHEREAS, volunteers at the center serve in a variety of facets, including project managers, financial assistants, human resources assistants, instructors, music professionals, concessions, public relations, researchers, board committee members, grant consultants, home delivered meals drivers, servers, office aides, marketers, and fundraisers; and

WHEREAS, with the help of its volunteers, the Plum Senior Community Center has been able to offer the senior community a diverse selection of classes and services that include everything from the InterACT Reading Program and computer classes to bus trips to New York City and live country music performances each week, as well as meal services and fitness classes, among many other offerings;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends the Plum Senior Community Center volunteers who have dedicated 75 hours or more of their time to the center in the past year.  Furthermore, we join with residents throughout Allegheny County in commending all of the staff and volunteers of the Plum Senior Community Center for all of their hard work, and we thank them for their continued commitment to providing our senior citizens with the services and the respect that they deserve.
