Proclamation honoring Lanny Frattare's career in sports broadcasting.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County serves as a homestead for innumerable figures who have made invaluable contributions to the sporting world; and
WHEREAS, in October 2008, upon Lanny Frattare's retirement from broadcasting games for the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was, and still is, regarded as one of baseball's most recognizable play-by-play voices; and
WHEREAS, in his illustrious career, which spanned 33 seasons, Lanny relayed over 5,000 contests including 24 National League Championship Series; he will be remembered by listeners for his joyful personality and distinctive voice that tended to resonate over the airwaves; and
WHEREAS, Lanny has supported our community with his Charity Golf Classic, which benefits Family Links and has raised in excess of $1.8 million for children, families and mentally challenged individuals; and
WHEREAS, by accepting a teaching position in the communications department of Waynesburg University, Lanny will continue to impact the future of our community with his unique perspective on life;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby honors Lanny Frattare for his impressive career as the Pittsburgh Pirates' play-by-play announcer. Your voice will undoubtedly be forever remembered by baseball fans everywhere. Furthermore, we thank you for your years of service, and we wish the best of luck to you and to your family in all of your future endeavors.
