Proclamation recognizing and commending the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh upon launching the Clean Slate Program and for the Authority's continued commitment to educating and encouraging a drug-free lifestyle for the youth of the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County as a whole and proclaiming the week of May 19 - 21, 2005 as "Clean Slate Week" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods and the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, as an initiative to eliminate drug activity in Pittsburgh public housing, the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh created a drug awareness program called “Clean Slate;” and
WHEREAS, with a desire to provide all youth with a fresh start in life, the program goal is to educate, encourage, and entertain drug free lives. These objectives are achieved through various activities during a three-day period that include a Town Hall Meeting, Adult Forum, Public School Tour, Baseball Clinic, Pep Rally, Celebrity Basketball Game, Book Signing, and a Concert; and
WHEREAS, the Clean Slate Program has educated and made an impact on more than 10,000 youth in the City of Pittsburgh;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh upon launching the Clean Slate Program and for the Authority's continued commitment to educating and encouraging a drug-free lifestyle for the youth of the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County as a whole and hereby proclaim the week of May 19 - 21, 2005 as “Clean Slate Week” in Allegheny County.
