WHEREAS, the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. is hosting its 79th National Convention at the Omni William Penn Hotel from July 21-26, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, the Association was founded in 1935 in order to promote and protect the interests of African American business and professional women, to serve as advisors to young people seeking to enter business and other professions, to improve the quality of life in local and global communities, and to foster good fellowship; and
 
WHEREAS, the Association is divided into six districts: Mid Atlantic, North Central, North East, South Central, South East, and Western, and one division: International Affairs; and
 
WHEREAS, the members of the Association participate in programs and initiatives in their local clubs throughout the United States, Africa and beyond. Focusing on LETS - Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Service, the Association offers training and network opportunities to members. Additionally, the Association provides community service in the areas of health, education, employment and economic development; and
 
WHEREAS, the Association predicts the attendance of 400 members at the National Convention in Pittsburgh. The Convention will be composed of many activities, including a community forum open to the public, entitled "Doing Business in the New Normal;"
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. for their good works, and warmly welcomes the convention attendees to our region.
