Proclamation honoring the one year anniversary of the Harrison Hills Environmental Learning Center in Natrona Heights.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County's diverse wildlife population thrives freely throughout our area's countless wilderness expanses; and

 

WHEREAS, the Harrison Hills Environmental Learning Center at Harrison Hills Park in Natrona Heights, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary, highlights this wilderness by providing the public with an interactive nature exhibit; and

 

WHEREAS, the center was a rundown park house before volunteers contributed countless hours to the renovation of the structure, transforming it into a modern building capable of housing a community organization; and

 

WHEREAS, the center houses mounted animals, birds and fish; displays birds' nests, eggs, hornets' nests and bear skulls; and contains learning materials that explain the details of Western Pennsylvania's wilderness; and

 

WHEREAS, over the past year, the center has been used to teach yoga and hiking classes in addition to its regular nature activities, and because of its various uses, it has truly become a community learning center;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of the County, hereby commends the Friends of Harrison Hills Park for contributing their time and effort to maintaining the remarkable Environmental Learning Center. Furthermore, we thank you wholeheartedly for your endeavors to further the education of our community.
